    Hubspot CMS vs WordPress

Choosing a content management system (CMS) as the platform for your website is no small task. Are you hoping to feature a blog, sell a catalogue of products, showcase projects, develop unique functionality, or create a membership feature? Do you want complete customization control or a template-based model?

Selecting the best CMS for your purposes is tricky. While WordPress is still the world’s most popular CMS platform, others have risen to contest its popularity. Recently, HubSpot CMS vs WordPress has become a common comparison, and we’ve decided to join the conversation.  Ultimately, one is not objectively “better” than the other; choosing between the two depends on your needs and development expertise.

    HubSpot CMS vs WordPress

HubSpot is a proprietary software. However, it includes hosting, SSL, CDN, and pre-built themes. The HubSpot CMS also includes built-in analytics, SEO data, and various marketing tools. WordPress, on the other hand, is open-source. You own your website, but hosting, themes, and plugins need to be incorporated.

    WordPress pros

    • Free to use. As mentioned, WordPress is free to use. However, you will need to purchase a domain name and web hosting. This is not a major deterrent for most, though, because there are affordable web hosting options that work smoothly with WordPress, such as Bluehost.

    • Open-source. WordPress is an open-source system, meaning that anyone can make changes to the core software, enhancing and improving the WordPress CMS. This also contributes to the flexibility of the platform. Open-source platforms, like WordPress, also provide unrestricted access to platform data, including comments, navigation menus, posts, pages, and more.

    • Library of themes and plugins. Don’t want to build your website from scratch? WordPress themes can serve as a starting point for your website design and layout. WordPress also has a rich library of high-quality, trusted plugins that can be incorporated into your site, adding a variety of functionality opportunities. This includes contact forms, SEO tools, ecommerce functionality, and more.

    • Complete customization. If you do want full control over the customization of your WordPress website, WordPress grants FTP access.

    • Community support. Because WordPress is so widely used, the growing community of support is abundant. Have questions about the possibilities of the system? Need inspiration for a design or functionality? The WordPress community offers free help and support.

    WordPress cons

Most of the WordPress cons can often be rectified with the right tools, but they should still be considered.

    • Design simplicity. Though WordPress has extensive customization abilities, not everyone can manipulate the CSS of their site to create a truly unique platform. Thus, for those starting with a WordPress template, their website can look similar to others using WordPress templates. Most businesses looking for a customized website will hire a professional to develop a customized theme that matches their brand identity.

    • Security. Being the world’s most widely used CMS has its downsides! WordPress faces more security concerns than other CMS platforms, because of its widespread usage. In fact, WordPress comprises 90% of hacked sites. WordPress admins can fend against hackers by employing security protocols, such as using a high-quality web host, consistently updating plugins, and ensuring that your hosting provider offers an SSL Certificate and secure CDN.

    • No built-in analytics. WordPress does not include built-in analytics software. However, third-party plugins can be implemented to gather this data.

    HubSpot pros

    • All-in-one platform. HubSpot provides website builders with all the tools they need to succeed in one place, including hosting, blogging tools, SEO, social media integration, responsive design, A/B testing, security measures, and analytics. HubSpot allow their users to download extensive marketing data, including: form submissions, keywords data, email performance, website data, landing page data, and more.

    • Support. Compared to WordPress, support looks different in the HubSpot community. Rather than an extensive but rather scattered population of WordPress developers providing support, HubSpot offers 24/7 email, live chat, and phone support. The HubSpot Knowledge Base delivers written support.

    • Personalization tools. HubSpot includes built-in retargeting features, including delivering personalized content to your website’s visitors, based on user behavior.

    • Drag-and-drop builder. The HubSpot CMS features a simple-to-use builder that allows users to drag various elements into the page. Live preview functionality allows builders to view their website in real-time while making changes.

    HubSpot cons

    • Not open-source. Unlike WordPress, the HubSpot CMS is not an open-source system. This means that all changes to the CMS is in the hands of the HubSpot team, not collaboration among an expansive community of developers.

    • Cost. HubSpot is not free. The lowest tiered plan costs $300 per month, and the higher plan costs $900 per month. HubSpot does offer a 14-day trial to allow users to see if the platform is right for their website.

    • Less control. HubSpot does not provide FTP access, and hosting, SSL support, etc. are handled through the CMS, taking some control out of the hands of the website owners. For some developers, however, this is preferred.

    RivalMind: Results-Driven Designers

So, which is better? Ultimately, the decision depends on the website owners. While WordPress offers extensive customization capabilities, HubSpot CMS is preferred for those without the time or expertise to deal with WordPress. HubSpot requires a hands-off development approach and comes with needed tools.
