A longstanding cornerstone for community service in the North Shore and NE Metro Chicago area, The Volunteer Center helps connect individuals, families, and groups with meaningful volunteer opportunities. Being a community-driven organization focused on making connections, their leadership recognized the need for a digital facelift. RivalMind quickly recognized the importance of leaving their outdated site behind and providing refresh that would increase regional visibility and make it easier for people to find volunteer opportunities.
Website Design
From the start, we discovered and appreciated that The Volunteer Center had a strong, recognizable brand. We embraced their iconic red, infusing it throughout the site with large, organic shapes that mirrored the figures in their logo. To add a fresh twist, we incorporated a soft pink that played beautifully with the existing red and white, adding depth and warmth to the overall design. The website needed to be professional, lively, and welcoming, just like the organization itself.
Navigation was also a top priority. We revamped the entire system to ensure that visitors could effortlessly find volunteer opportunities and connect with local nonprofits. Using a streamlined "collection" method, we made sure users could quickly access events and programs, while “Spotlight” stories and the “Junior Board” sections are highlighted to boost community engagement.
The final website is a game-changer. The Volunteer Centers new site isn’t just stylish and beautiful; it is designed for maximum impact. Easier navigation and a clean, intuitive layout significantly improves the user experience. Visitors can now find opportunities faster and with less frustration, directly benefiting the organizational goal of promoting volunteerism and increasing visibility in the region. The Junior Board page, a vital part of their outreach, became a standout feature, drawing excitement from the community and encouraging more youth to participate in service.
To reflect The Volunteer Center’s established yet welcoming brand, we selected Ofelia as the primary font. It has the perfect blend of elegance and boldness, closely mirroring the style of their original logo. For the body text, we chose Filson Pro, a soft sans-serif font that paired harmoniously with Ofelia, creating a polished yet approachable feel throughout the site.
We kept the original red and white to stay true to The Volunteer Centers brand identity, symbolizing impact and unity. To add balance and a sense of harmony, we introduced a soft pink, creating a color palette that felt both energizing and approachable. This combination ensures the site was not only eye-catching but also inviting, striking the right tone for an organization dedicated to helping others.
